Journey to success

Jini's story

Travelling to a new country - moving into a new home - and then starting a job within the NHS a few days later can be a daunting prospect for anyone.

Thankfully we were supporting Jini every step of the way, making her dream job a reality – and making her new life in London relaxing and happy.

We caught up with international health care professional Jini, a mum-of-two, as she started her dream job as an Occupational Therapist at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM).

Being allocated to a lovely house close to her workplace, shops and all transport routes, Jini has been able to start her three-year contract seamlessly and is getting ready to move into new, longer-term accommodation with her husband and two young sons.

As part of her onboarding, we helped Jini open a UK bank account, secure a UK phone number and connect with primary care for a GP.

Taking care of essentials like this, meant Jini could spend more time focusing on her job and future in the UK.

Jini said:

“It’s always been a dream of mine to work in the NHS, but when I finally got the job, I was very worried. I’ve never travelled before, so the thought of the journey scared me. And I was also nervous about settling in – how was I going to cope sorting my life out when I arrived in London?

“Thankfully everyone at ContinueUs has been amazing. From day one – when they carried my huge suitcases up the staircase into my home – it was literally like the stress was being lifted off my shoulders.

“The house itself is stunning. I share it with a colleague and it’s nice and big, so there’s plenty of space to relax.

“I’m close to the shops and all transport links, so getting to work is quick and simple and I can pick up any food supplies on the way back from the hospital.”

“I’ve been connected to a UK phone network and have great Wi-Fi connection, so I can speak to my husband and boys on a regular basis. I couldn’t have wished for a better welcome.

“I have access to a ContinueUs online portal with essential information – it’s great, I call it my survival guide! When I get stuck, I just call the ContinueUs team - no problem is too small for them and they never let me down. It’s so reassuring to know they’re by my side.

“And because I’m happy, relaxed and secure at home, I’m able to focus properly on my job at SLaM, providing the best possible care for my patients. I feel part of the team – confident in my abilities and proud that I’m contributing and adding value.

“I’ve been training for more than four years for this opportunity – it’s so nice to finally put my knowledge and skills into practice and turn people’s lives around for the better.”
